From bare yard to finished porch
This project started with nothing but grass and a bit of old stone. In the before photos you can see the slab being formed, the edges set, and the concrete poured for the new porch. In the after photos you can see the finished surface, a big, smooth slab that sits just off the back door and gives the family a real place to put a table, chairs, and a grill. It is a simple change that makes the whole back of the home more usable.
Built to handle Ohio weather
A back porch has to stand up to sun, rain, and snow all year, so we built this one to last. In the photos you can see the clean, even finish and the control joints placed to manage cracking as the slab expands and contracts. Poured over a properly prepared base with a slight slope for drainage, a porch like this sheds water away from the house and holds up through many Columbus season.

A tip for long lasting concrete porch
If you are adding a concrete porch or patio, do not overlook control joints and sealing. Those grooves cut into the surface give the concrete a planned place to crack as it moves, instead of cracking wherever it wants. A quality sealer put on after curing then keeps water and Franklin County freeze and thaw from wearing the surface down. Reseal every couple of years and your porch will look great for a long time.
